‘Skint Livi could go bust’

Well it seems now that the gloves are off.

The 2nd largest shareholder of Livingston Football Club, Ged Nixon, has gone public and admitted his grave concerns to the press for future of the club.

LiviNews has reproduced the interview, in todays edition of the Scottish Sun in it’s entirety below.

LIVINGSTON were last night teetering on the brink of going to the wall AGAIN.

The cash-strapped Lions are in deep financial distress and it is understood a staggering SIXTEEN companies are chasing money owed to them.

SunSport can reveal there are now genuine fears that Livi are heading back into administration for the second time in just five years.

Livi’s second biggest shareholder Ged Nixon blasted the Italian consortium fronted by Angelo Massone last night as concerns for the club he loves continue to grow.

Nixon broke his silence to tell SunSport: “I have serious concerns over the future of Livingston Football Club. I have real fears. I know of people who have not been paid in the last month.”

Nixon hit out as it emerged that some non-playing staff have STILL not received their February wage — with March’s money expected in just over seven days’ time.

The club’s owners have also been summoned to appear in Linlithgow Sheriff Court this morning as Leader Timber chase another unpaid bill.

And Nixon — a member of Livi For Life — rapped: “I have distanced myself for the last six months. “But I am still the second major shareholder. I still care deeply about the club.

“The club is in court tomorrow, a company called Leader Timber is chasing money for an unpaid floor bill.
“There is also action pending from another company, Image Printers. I’m just not going to reel them all off but at the weekend there was no beer in the taps and some non-playing staff have still not been paid last month’s wages.

“Bear in mind they are due next month’s wages in one week’s time yet they still haven’t seen the money from February.

“There have been problems with the players’ wages and these guys have been consistently late with payments.

“Also, there are no more gates from now until next payday.”

Livi plunged into administration just weeks after winning the CIS Cup in 2004.

And Nixon admits he fears the dark days are set to return. He said: “I’m aware of the implications of this club going into administration for a second time.

“There is a Livi For Life AGM to be held on April 5 and we are already working on a rescue package.

Livi spokesman Tommaso Angelini dismissed any claims of fresh financial uncertainty.

He said: “This is 100 per cent not true and you would be very foolish to print anything to the contrary.”

  1. The first signs of it hitting the fan?

  2. Oh dear. 😦 The guy in the bottom photo has a smug face if there ever was one.

    • I feel really isolated as a supporter. There’s nothing I feel I can do to help. The Trust meeting is not for a few weeks and it might be too late by then. I’m glad that they seem to be working away behind the scenes as I think they’ll need to have the backing of the business community and West Lothian Council before the general public and Livi support will take them seriously.

      • Don’t feel isolated – get vocal. Things have moved on from a few weeks ago when rumours were circulating which the majority of fans didn’t want to believe – many thought fellow fans were just stirring it.
We now have clear examples of financial shenanigans, and there’s a lot more that’s not yet out in the public domain. The Trust is doing what any Supporters Trust should be doing – making sure that plans are in place should their club hit financial difficulties, and working to improve the way the local community views and deals with the club.
Everyone who cares about Livi and wants to see the club continue should get behind the Trust’s plans – the Open Meeting on the 5th of April is the place to be!!

        • It is good that we seem to at last got sight of some facts at last. But facts or no facts does the trust really and seriously think it can get a hold of the club? I mean, I’d love Livi FC to be owned by the fans (or at least their representatives) but surely there would need to be some major cuts right across the board in order to stay afloat. I don’t think the trust has that much cash right now, so will the fans buy into any plans that promise little or no money in the pot?

  3. re the OP

    Fingers crossed it does.

  4. Wotchoo talkin ’bout man??
